Increased fees
Earlier in 2019 we told you about the temporary suspension of increases to probate fees pending further consideration and approval by Parliament. The delay was largely caused by the lack of time to debate the matter due to Brexit. The good news for executors and beneficiaries of estates is that the government announced that it has decided to abandon the increases. To ensure the old rate of fees will apply, it’s no longer necessary to submit a special statement with a probate application.
The government has given up on its plan to increase probate fees. Therefore, the statement that needed to be sent with a probate application to qualify for the old rate of fees is no longer needed.
